For the holidays, me, at 5, waking up my Dad for dinner.

Last night I saw Peter Gabriel. It was a really powerful, emotional show. It was good to see someone with that much experience and wisdom throwing down so brilliantly. His daughter Melanie is in the band now, which made it even more beautiful.
Awhile ago, I was obsessed with developing a film about modern Father/Daughter relationships. It's an underexamined thing. Mother/Daughter has been done. Mother/Son as been done to death, as well as Father/Son. But, there's still something a little foreign about the Father/Daughter dynamic. I think that's odd.
I'm interested in the healthy relationships exclusively, not the disfuctional or lazy ones. When I was working on this project, and would ask girls what they thought of their dads, more often than not they would just be like, "Yeah, he's this guy that works and whatever..." I don't think there's necessarily a lack of love, but there's certainly a massive lack of connection. An epic lack of connection.
So, watching Peter and Melanie rock the shit out of the Staples Center, clearly in love, and respecting each other, it was really, really powerful. And it still seems rare.

Ahhhh, so much for my big gay bonding moment with dad. Anyways, he's always let me be myself, even if he's officially known as "the minister with the bad kid", he's always stuck up for me and encouraged me to live life to the fullest and bestest...(that's a good use of the word bestest there, huh?) I think you should totally do a movie on cool dads and daughters...there's a lot more out there than you might think!
