Fair warning for any of you not wanting to read a rant -
I love to read the NY Times but when I'm on the road I read USA Today (because its offered free in most hotels these days). It seems there are always things in that paper that make me angry about our state of affairs.
Word - Congress is considering renewing an $87.5 million a year abstinence-only (no sex until marriage) program rather than sex education in our schools. In the last 10 years the US has spent $1.5 Billion!! on this so called sex-education program. Research has shown that it has NO impact on the age of first sex, NO impact on the number of partners, NO impact on the rate of pregnancy, and NO impact on sexually transmitted diseases. WTF?! Why can't we teach sex education and safe sex in schools? Oh yea, because we have the religious right controlling the country and our leaders.
The other article talked about how uninformed Americans are despite the availability of 24 hour news and news on the Internet. Americans are no more informed than they were 20 years ago before all that was available. Barely two thirds of Americans can even tell us who the Vice President is (despite his being in the news all the time for doing or saying something stupid). It went on and on. Just amazing.
Anyway, I'm done with my rant, I just had to get it out. Now I think I'm going surfing before I have to work this afternoon. A little salt water is good for the soul.

More news does not mean more information.
The cable news channels have so much time to fill that they no longer have any time for actual investigative reporting. When was the last time a reporter got to the bottom of something? I can't remember. They spend more time on selling advertising space than they do on the actual news. Sad but probably true.
Anyways, stay in California as long as you can Mother Nature is screwing with us over here.
