Angel's Eyes
This is the story of the time I met an angel....
I didn't realize it at first...
She was so inconspicuous,
so unobtrusive so...
She was standing there waiting for the man behind the counter
A little irritated at having to wait so long
I waited patiently in line behind her...
Her face so soft, her eyes so gentle...
She was whispering softly to the little boy at her side
"Michael don't do that honey..."
"Put that down sweetie..."
He was so cute running around and trying hard to behave
but it was obvious he was losing the battle...
She turned back to the man behind the counter
who had finally returned with her package...
She paid him and turned toward the door...
for a brief moment her eyes met mine
and I saw myself in them
I saw myself holding her in my arms
and kissing her on the neck...
Then she was gone...out the door...
"Hey buddy! Lets go!"
The man behind me was prodding me forward...
Stupidly I stumbled out of line and toward the door
I had to see her again...
I stepped outside and squinted in the sun...
I looked left and right, trying to catch another glimpse
of the angel that had touched the very core of my soul with just a glance...
She was gone of course, and I never saw her again.
I often wake up in the middle of the night sweating...I feel her next to me
Her eyes burning a hole right through me...
But she's not there...
She's not here...
But I yearn for her...
