I want to take a moment to share some pictures and story about my new little buddy ...
His name is Lewis, but I call him “Louie” for short. He just turned 4 months this week. He, his mother, and litter mates were abandoned when they were just a week or two old. To make matters worse, this mother was hit by a car shortly after they were abandoned. The young lady who saved the kitten feed them with bottles and slept every night outside in a truck bed with them until an friend of mine who fosters cat due to the shortage of space at animal rescue facilities , took them in. Louie was the smallest of 5 and had taken a beating. His tail was broken, and he was extremely afraid of people. My friend found homes for all his litter mates but because of size and fearful personality he couldn’t find a home. After weeks, Louie warmed up to his new caregivers was was ready for a permanent home. She started posting photos of him and I saw the one above, with a little bit of his story, and I could stop thinking about him. I had already decided I had a lot going on and I didn’t need a cat right now, but I had already been hooked. We talked and he filled me in on his full story, health, and their desire to find a home soon. I showed his picture to a few coworkers, and that was the final nail in the coffin. When I got home that night I told her I would take him, if he still needed a home. A day later I picked him up and he moved in with me.
His first day he spent his entire time under the bed, not sure what to make of his new surroundings. However, that night when I went to bed, he wasted no time curling up new to me a sleeping, the entire night. The new day, he started playing, eating, used the litter box, and even started coming when I called him. We quickly became friends.
This Friday will be three weeks together, and although I haven’t had as much sleep as I would like, it’s been a grand partnership. His first Vet visit went great. He’s healthy, no sign of his tail being broken, and his weight had come up. He’s gained about two pounds since I got him, and he was so tiny. My friend couldn’t believe how big he got in just two weeks, and how far he’s come from this scared little kitty. Like most cats he loves to explore, and play. I found he really enjoys watching football. Normally he couldn’t care less about what I’m watching but when ever football is on he’s glued, till he falls asleep.
I very happy I decided to bring him in. He’s been an absolute joy. He’s very smart, and pretty well behaved. Still working on staying off counters. He even seems to know when I’ve had a stressful or hard day at work, cause as soon as I get home on those days, he quickly jumps up and starts nuzzling me as to say “it’s ok, you’re home now”. Even one night last week I had a terrible knot in my back from work and laced down right away. I dosed off, only to be awakened by Louie rubbing the exact spot on my back. I look forward to sharing more about him and photos soon.
