I'm a little disgusted with the working world today. For two reasons really...
1) The general work ethic of some people. How can someone ask for a raise because they feel they are being over worked and not being paid enough for it, then once they get the raise, start doing less work than they were before. This is the case with one of my co-workers. She bitched and complained to the boss and the owner that she wasn't making enough. Please keep in mind that she had only been working for the company for 2 months at the time. Since then her productivity has extremely plummetted. She socializes with other co-workers way too much, surfs the net on her own laptop she keeps next to her desk instead of doing her work, and makes personal calls on her cell phone or on the office line. Now I can't really say anything because technically I'm not supposed to know she got a raise. It's amazing the things you figure out when you pay attention to what is going on around you at work.
2) The lack of business ethics in our clients. We caught an attorney trying to use one of our experts behind our backs. We found out because the expert told us. That part acutally does show good business ethics. But in the mind of the attorney and his office staff we are scum. I actually had to call this attorney's office today to get some information and once his assistant found out it was me on the phone, the tone of her voice changed from cheerfull to expressing nothing but contempt and disgust. So, they go and try and steal our expert, get caught, and somehow we are the scum. WTF?
It's days like this I wish I didn't have to be professional and diplomatic for the sake of the company's image. I just want to be able to tell people off and ask "What the HELL is your problem?"
