Top of the World
Some 15+ years ago I heard once, and only once, the Sugarcubes' cover of Top of the World by the Carpenters. The problem was the surviving Carpenter, Richard, hated the cover so much he sued to get it suppressed. Occasionally I would search music conventions for a bootleg but I wasn't adamant about it. I had friends who frequented such things all the time and I'm sure could have had a copy if I desperately wanted. Still, I would do the occasional search and to my surprise, found it at IMEEM. So with years of building it up in my head it holds up. Bjork isn't as vocally expressive as I remember though she hints at wanting to let loose near the end but Einar was exactly as I expected. The big difference between Bjork and the Sugarcubes was that Einar (the Einar Bjork was married to _ as I remember there were 2 Einars in the 'cubes) added a discordance and atonal quality that pushed them from being mainstream altenative to something quite unique. Anyway, give it a listen.
I started putting some stuff up at deviant art Not a lot yet. I don't have a good digital catalog of most of my artwork.
Back in November, Sarah and I, at the end of the final walkthrough for her new house (I was doing the walkthrough with her because her then fiance, now husband, couldn't make it due to work but would make the signing,) had decided to eat at On the Border She wanted to know what sort of restaurants were in the area and I suggested it among others. She was thrilled because she had never eaten at the chain but liked Mexican food. Of course, we never ate there. Since then it has become a running joke for me that we will never eat there. I was in Naperville yesterday and called but got no reply. A little more than an hour later, just as I had ordered food and started to eat, she called to see if I was still available to eat. (I actually almost called Chris and thought it would have been even funnier if Chris and I ate there without her.) But we have a 1:00 date for all 3 of us today.
