"If I ever get diabetes, Mike Lee is the first guy I'm looking for!"
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
I don't think I mentioned it but last week Matt's TV died and he bought a new 52″ dlp. It's big. Though it hasn't gotten me to watch more tv. Or at least to watch tv in the living room. Hermit is as hermit does. We need to buy an HD tuner and eventually an hd dvd player.
Last Wednesday I went to see a production of Troilus and Cressida at the Navy Pier Shakespeare Theater. One of the Bard's lesser known pieces (I was only vaguely aware of the title,) and considered to be complex and hard to absorb, I found it quite enjoyable. The multitude of characters, all from the Trojan War, were not overwhelming as much of my youth was spent studying ancient mythology. Afterwards, dinner with the parents at De la Costa, a South American themed restaurant. We started with a tuna and scallop ceviche and I had the Xim Xim, a giant prawn dish set atop shredded chicken, though I chose it as much for the name as anything else.
I was able to track down 2 issues of the wonderful Gap Press International so I don't have to rush downtown every week to try and see if it's in.
On friday there was the company birthday/going away bash. 3 birthdays (one mine) and 2 people leaving to join the armed forces was as good a reason as any to have a celebration.
Sunday I drove around and sorta got lost but it was relaxing. 9FM had their 90s weekend thing going and of all the bad/wonderful songs including Hammer Time and Ice Ice Baby, I nearly lost it in a good way when they played Sophie B. Hawkins' "As I Lay Me Down To Sleep."
I also bought a new computer. The old fellow just couldn't take it any more and it wasn't worth doing another reload of XP. The new fellow is an HP Pavilion Slimline with my first legal copy of Microsoft Office! Don't ask me about the other programs though. For those of you who wonder, Vista appears very much like a mac. I spent much of Sunday evening downloading programs, updating bookmarks and saving passwords to frequented sites.
Speaking of frequented sites ex-Meg found another way to break my heart, though this time it was quite unintentional. I took her news, which shall remain private, much harder than I thought I would and I was surprised by the emotion I felt. As ever, I remain supportive and hope she's happy.
I've missed 2 wrestling pay-per-views in a row! Yesterday was because I had to be onsite at 6AM today. And I was. The last time was just cuz Pat and I were both tired.
Which brings us to Monday. I keep a jar of candy at work. Normally filled with Jolly Ranchers, it takes a week or so for me to have to refill it. Occasionally, I've tried some other things like sour Warheads, but this time I was in the mood for Starburst. Apparently Ivan has a weakness for Starburst. Which is where the diabetes comment came from.
There you have it. I've spent an extraordinary amount of money in the past 2 weeks and will have to cut back for May just to catch up.
