Ok, so over the years I have become more and more obsessed with the Live Aid show(s) back in '85. So many big names, such a huge live audience (at both Wembley and JFK), and so many crazy moments. I thought I would compile a bunch of highlights from the show for those of you who haven't seen it. The DVD is a must-buy for any serious music fan, make it a New Years' resolution. Humor me, ok?
I'll start with the Wembley show today ->
Phil Collins - Against All Odds
I've always preferred my Collins quiet and introspective.
-----------
U2 - Bad
One of those defining moments for Bono. You know, what with that monumental mullet of his. Oh, also a great performance. Quoting Lou Reed lyrics is an easy way to my heart.
-----------
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody / Radio Ga Ga
Hammer To Fall
Queen's set was the highlight of the entire show.
-----------
David Bowie - Modern Love
Bowie's "soul" period. Still a great song.
-----------
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
Pete's guitar sound is just filthy.
-----------
Elton John & George Michael - Don't Let The Sun Go Down
Oh the irony, in retrospect. George Michael gets the biggest female pop.
-----------
Paul McCartney - Let It Be
I love it when my heroes prove that they are human. I couldn't imagine playing piano by myself in front of that many people. Even the almightly Macca gets jittery.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I gotta be nosey and ask what you all got for christmas. I got a new watch and a Beatles tab book. I'm so content with my lifestyle right now, I would have been happy with anything. I think it's crazy that it's almost 2007 already. This year went by in a flash, I guess that's a good thing.
