A "Mustache on the Mona Lisa"..... that's my description of many of the tattoos and body art I have seen on women. (NOT ALL... but most).
I can't convince myself to get a tattoo or body art. Not because I'm a prude, or because I look down on it in anyway. It's just that as a designer, artist, photographer, and "creative guy", I could just never marry myself to one style of art for more than a few months.
I look at some of the "art" coming out of the ink shops and say, "Yeah... OK I get it, kinda of nice", but what will I think of this art in 2 years or even 10 years? 18 months from now I might not want this ink on my bumper, more less on my arm! I would hate to look in the mirror and be daily reminded of what I thought to be "cool" circa 1993. My perception of aesthetics changes to rapidly.
Also, I have a real guy thing for women... I recall a song lyric I heard years ago, "Don't they know that women are the ONLY works of art". Ladies your bodies are beautiful and perfect as they are without any adornments. So when I see a skull on your sleeve, wings on your back, a snake around your thigh... my first reaction is not "cool", but to say..."Look, someone just painted a mustache on the Mona Lisa".
But.. ok that said, I get the self expression thing and "making a statement". I would NEVER take that away from anyone. My thoughts here are aimed at me alone. I might completely change my mind if someone could invent the 2 year tattoo. Man if I was working at an ink shop this would be goal number one. A semi-permanent ink job that would last about 24 months, then slowly fade, would send business through the roof!
