Between booking last-minute sound jobs and making plans to head out of town and my writing and directing and trying to get a street gang off the ground, there's lots going on this week!
But first, a Random Thought (soon to be a recurring fixture in my scribblings here):
Is it just me, or do you ever find yourself not updating your journal as often as you want because you don't wanna reset the "Comments" to zero? I really like re-reading comments that are funny or interesting, and it's kind of a drag to see them go. Of course, that feeling disappears when the NEW comments start rolling in! So here we go again, I 'spose...
It's been a good week for picking up some random days of sound work, and I'm starting to dig out of the financial hole that my car wreck in November put me in. In 6 months I'll be begging for a day off that doesn't HAVE to be spent doing laundry before resuming shooting the following day, so I have tried to enjoy my reprieve as much as possible, even though I've been really, really po...
Okay, on to the journal proper! I am still not sure which of two sound mixers I will be working for on this first job, since Scott (the first one in line) may have a better deal here at home, but one he can't take me onto (another boom guy, Rob, gave Scott the referral, so Rob'd do the job). So I don't know yet exactly how I'm getting to NC; I told Scott I'd split the driving with him if he did it, since he has to get all his gear across country, but I'll fly if the other guy, Whit, does it. But I do know I am heading that way soon
It's weird: I joined SGNC and left what I thought were a couple of friendly, introductory sort of posts, saying I was gonna be there for several months this year and wanted to meet some of them and hang out. But the silence has been deafening so far. Hmmm. Maybe I just need to give it more time; after all, they don't know me yet like you do!
I am eventually going to chat with my man fentopal, whose kick-ass script I am planning on producing / directing sometime this year, but I have been too effin busy to get together with him yet.
I DID make a lot of progress with my own writing the last coupla weeks. I did a complete ground-up rewrite of a 20-page step outline for this one feature I've been writing on and off for a few years; it's highly personal and there were many sticking points, but I FINALLY got it all worked out. Now I just have to rewrite the actual script! But at least the structure is solid and I like it, plus I can still use a few of my old scenes from previous drafts. This one is a solo effort, but I usually work with a partner, and he and I have been getting some good feedback on a comedy we're circulating a bit right now. I think it's very salable (and the feedback so far confirms this), so I am really hoping we can get something going with it soon.
And lastly (for now, since I have to hurry and jet up to Van Nuys and enjoy Pot Luck "24" Night at my friend Ben's house!), a few of us got the idea to start a gang - really. Not to pick fights or commit crimes or anything, just to get cool patches for our leather jackets and look tougher. It would specifically be a locals-only film industry related thing, but maybe we'd make honorary members of our non-L.A. friends! I'm trying to get us a board set up here on SG, so wish us luckand look for "The Hollywoods", hopefully coming soon to an SG Group near you!

Well, at least you had fun at the auto show. Sounds like I missed quite a bit. The VW must be quite a ride. It seems to blow the whole small Beetle perception right out of the water.
Thanks for the message, it's nice to have people take a secon to say "hello" and all that.
I'll be in La from mid-feb to the end of April, so whatever happens with my auditions I'll miss most of the NY winter anyway.
Sounds like you've got a lot going on, which is exactly what I'm learning you have to do in our biz.
GOod luck with your projects and feel free to give me a shout back anytime!
