My home town Bielefeld is known for a conspiracy (or a running gag among German and American Internet users) where the city of Bielefeld (population of 323,076) in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia does not actually exist. Rather, its existence is merely propagated by an entity known only as THEM (SIE in German), which has conspired with authorities to create the illusion of the city’s existence.
The theory posits three questions:
Do you know anybody from Bielefeld?
Have you ever been to Bielefeld?
Do you know anybody who has ever been to Bielefeld?
A majority are expected to answer 'no' to all three questions. Anybody claiming knowledge is said to be part of the conspiracy or being deceived themselves.
The conspiracy theory was first made public in a posting to the newsgroup de.talk.bizarre on May 16, 1994, by Achim Held, a student of computer science at the University of Kiel. From there, it spread throughout the German-speaking Internet community and has lost little of its popularity, even after 20 years. Speculated originators jokingly include the CIA, Mossad or aliens who use Bielefeld University as a disguise for their spaceship.
In the YouTube video I embedded you will get to see the trailer of the movie about the Bielefeld Conspiracy ( 2009) made by film students of the Bielefeld University who started a project to develop a feature film based on the Bielefeld Conspiracy. The project was financed by the university and local sponsors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bielefeld_Conspiracy).
The movie itself of course takes place in Bielefeld so you actually get to see a lot of my home town and places I love. You will get to see my University I graduated from last year too it is a concrete building from the 70ies so nothing fancy.
Places I would take you would be the west of the city. The cultural meeting point for students, local independent shops, flea and farmer’s markets and all kind of events. I also love the historical part of the city with its old buildings and cafes where you can sit outside and enjoy the life on the streets or listen to street musicians.
I also love the climbing gym and the little crack in the forest.
My newest favorite place to go out and drink is a Beach Bar on top of an old fucked up parking garage where you have an awesome view over Bielefeld. The bar is outside and made from old Ship containers and wood. So cool! It is a meeting point for young and old, also families drink and eat and let their kids play in the sand.
Bielefeld will always be a place I would go back to <3
Last week’s homework was about writing about special powers
So why not combining a guided tour with flying J part of my studies were touristic science and recreational education so let me take you on a long flight over the roofs of my city. You will get to see a lot of forest Bielefeld is a very green city, not so much water though. You will get to see the big Dr. Oetker factory which was founded in Bielefeld too.
I was actually dreaming about me flying like a lot when i was younger and one dream felt so real so i believed for many years i really were flying that night. I was so convinced that I had plenty of arguments with people that wouldn’t believe me lol …..well maybe i was ;).
