James's life first update since september (when I was working on Night of the Living Dead):
Stage managed David Sedaris's The Santaland Diaries at Cleveland Public Theatre. Good experience. Our David, a guy named Sean, is a really good guy and I now count him as one of my closest friends. Incredibly funny, sensitive, and supportive. Also, a great wing man.
I'm in Boston right now at my mom's house along with my sister and sister's girlfriend. We've opened a few presents already. I got Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture 2 and a flat cap and a pair of gloves.
Presents I've gotten others:
Lew: Autobahn: A Short Play Cycle by Neil LaBute
JP: Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness trade
Denise: Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress Free Productivity by David Allen
Eric: The Dark Night trade
Melissa: The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry
Valerie: Scene It Movie Edition travel size
Clare: Six vintage Jurassic Park collectible McDonalds cups
Rachel: The Best American Non-Required Reading 2008
Katie: Jurassic Park Explorer DVD Game
My sister: Very expensive mittens
My mother: A Waterpik Ultra Dental Jet toothbrush. It's what she wanted.
My sister's girlfriend: The Heroes With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell
Dad: Sister's taking care of that
I wrote my ex-girlfriend (The One I Let Get Away) a couple weeks ago congratulating her on her new theatre in Pittsburgh. She wrote back. So now I'm opening my heart in another letter. We'll see.
Watching a lot of Arrested Development on Hulu.
Listening to: Joy Division (Substance), Astronautalis (The Mighty Ocean and 9 Dark Theatres until i buy Pomegranate)
I really don't see why more people don't listen to Astronautalis. I count The Mighty Ocean... as THE best album of 2006, and I'm expecting Pomegranate to be as good or better. And he can't even get a Pitchfork review. It's a crime. The Might Ocean will change yr life.
Reading: Nazi Germany and the Jews by saul Friedlander
Eden's Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father by John Matteson
The Interpretation of Dreams by Freud
I also bought On the Origin of the Species by Darwin and my mom gave me American Bloomsbury, about Emerson, Alcott, etc. I also have a bunch of comics from the library. Recent X-Men, Fables, James Bond... too much to read, too little time.
Update:
We just did presents.
And some pretty awesome clothes. My mom has better taste than I do.
