My aunt is having her brain surgery tomorrow. She has an anuerysm (spelling) behind her optical nerve. She is in Ft Smith AK with a very good surgeon. We are all extremly worried like any family would be. She is only 53 years old. She's always been one of my favorite aunts, and she is very special to me. The doctors say that the sucess rate is high and she had a 95% chance of coming out ok. If something bad does happen, I'm afraid that it would be the complete end of my grandmother. She is already in a very fragile state. She has had a very hard time sincee we were hit by Katrina. That was the second time we were it in 3 years and the second time we lost everything. That is very hard on a women in her 70's.
I would like to say something to everyone who reads this, and please tell anyone who will listen.
New Orleans is not any more fixed than the day after the storm hit. I know people in other states think we are crybabies or just lazy, but let me tell you, we have been failed by all levels of government. From federal all the way down to city. Please know that we are coming up on the 1 year anniversary august 29 and there are still people living in other cities waiting for their FEMA trailers. We still have no evacuation plan no rebuilding in certain parts of the city, trash all over crime rate up through the ceiling. I just wanted to tell everyone that just because there might not be any news coverage about it, it is still a part of our everyday lives. My parents have been in a camper for 11 months now. They were just able to start fixing their house last month because of red tape. I did get lucky that someone wanted to buy our shell of a house and we were able to by a new one at a decent price. We really fell into some good luck with that. Rent here as doubled since the storm, and there still are not enough people to fill all the jobs here. So please don't forget about us and tell your friends and family you heard it from someone who knows what it is like. Thanks guys.
