Cooking short grain brown rice for a rice salad. Brought it to a boil and moved it to another burner that I thought was set to simmer, but was not turned on at all. 45 minutes later, uncooked rice soaking in tepid water. So I bring it to a boil again then move it to a burner I know is set to simmer. 45 minutes later and the rice is partially (but not fully) cooked. So I set it to simmer again. 20 minutes later, it's still not cooked. I am rather steamed, if you'll forgive the pun. All the other ingredients are sitting in a bowl water for this g-d rice to cook! And I was supposed to be in bed half an hour ago. MEH!
