Today, I created a Weight, Fitness, and Health Support Group on facebook. We already have 30ish members. People have been really excited to share their experiences. They are on in different places on their health journey. Most are trying to lose weight, but some are trying to gain. I’m really excited for the future of this group of peeps.
A bunch of us are committing to one small change for the next three weeks on the dual theories that the small changes make the most difference and that it takes 3 weeks to make or break a habit. My committed change is no soda. This is in addition to my wheatless week beginning on Sunday. I’m not sure which will be more challenging. Wheat – in the form of pasta, pizza dough, and cookies – is a staple of my diet. Soda is what use as a crutch when I’m trying not to eat the stuff that has wheat in it. I hope it doesn’t come to a choice, but if it does, I will choose to abstain from soda over wheat. I really want to meet that commitment, both for myself as in solidarity with my support group.
I also took a 30 minute walk after work. This seems like the best time to get my daily walk in, since once I get home, I am unlikely to want to go out again. Plus I really like my sleep, so I won’t be getting up 30 minutes earlier for something like a walk. I am almost nostalgic for the months leading up to my back surgery, when the only thing that relieved the sciatic pain was walking. I would get up at 5 every morning, ice for 45 minutes, walk for 45 minutes, then get ready for work. Totally not worth the constant agony, though.
