Who am I?
I got to thinking about this recently as I realized that part of what was wrong with me in my last relationship was that I didn't feel like I could be myself. Over 4 years I had actually lost myself.
So I'm going to talk about myself a little bit, and maybe figure out at least some of what makes me... me.
I'm Chris. I grew up just outside of Vancouver BC, and 25 years later I'm still... Just outside of Vancouver BC.

My dad died of cancer when I was 15, but lasted 2 and a half years longer than he was told he would. Him dying wasn't really the hardest time in my life. (That would probably be right now...) I was able to come to terms with it over the time that he was deteriorating.
I've been playing video games for a long time, I played NES games with my dad when I was just a tyke. And I had gotten each console since then. I love games, and I think a big reason for that is that I feel connected to my past through them.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is why video games are so important to me. But beyond that I've found a lot of awesome people that video games have led me to. The entire Screwattack.com crew, as well as most of the G1s (a G1 is a member of Screwattack), ProJared and Jirard Khalil on Youtube and so many more, all of whom are a inspiration to me.

When I was young, I believe in Grade 4 I decided I wanted to be a writer. For 10 or more years it was something I tried so hard to do, but I have that thing... where, you know, a better idea comes along and you abandon the last one... and that happens once a month or so. Nevertheless its still something I love to do, I just feel like a complete failure at it.
I started playing guitar around the time my dad died, and it took me forever to learn how to sing and play at the same time. I'm still not great at it, but it depends on the strumming. I love making music but I've never felt fulfilled by it. And in the last 3 years I've hardly played at all. That is mostly because I was in a band, and another band member lied about me and got me fired. Since then I haven't done much in the way of music. It kind of scarred me I suppose. I'm still healing from that.
I discovered John and Hank Green on youtube about a year ago... I guess. I'm really not sure. But they are 2 of the most inspirational people I've seen, and they make me feel good about the world. They've been doing their Vlogbrothers channel since 2007, and there's a ton of great stuff in there. They talk about everything, silly to serious. They also have another channel called Crash Course which is a science and history video crash course. 10 minute episodes. And then Hank does a channel called Sci Show which is short science videos that are super interesting. John is a NY Times bestselling author (he wrote the TIME #1 book of the year The Fault in Our Stars), and Hank has like... EVERY OTHER JOB IN THE WORLD.

They have a million or so followers on youtube, and their collective is called "Nerfighteria" because they consider themselves Nerdfighters. A Nerdfighter is not a person who fights nerds (that's a bully). A Nerdfighter is a nerd fighting to decrease the amount of 'suck' in the world, and increase the amount of awesome. These people with whom I have regular conversations are very awesome. I'm so happy to have become a part of Nerdfighteria. I just wish I had more close friends that are nerdfighters!

I also discovered Suicidegirls about a year and a half ago. Suicidegirls, though unfortunately insensitively named (the name came from a Chuck Palahniuk quote), is a (for the most part) wonderful group of individuals.

I like SG for a few reasons. The first reason being the community, the people I've met through it are so cool and so interesting, and I have so much in common with them. The second reason is inspiring photography. Photography is something I'm very interested in, though slow at getting started. For the most part the pictures on SG are just wonderful and beautiful. Each picture is an inspiration to me. I used to wish I could draw or paint (which was an absolute no-go), but with photography I can take the beauty of life and put in on a canvas (or monitor). The third reason would be immediately obvious. Beautiful women with piercings and tattoos (usually). I stand by my statement in past blogs that women are the most beautiful thing in the universe. Even humans in general. The fourth and final reason is that I have a couple friends that are models on SG and they have my full support because its something they love doing. This is not something that will change, I love being a part of this community and I love almost everything about it. Especially that they oppose the 'barbie doll is beautiful' ideals that we seem to have today. Everybody is beautiful if they want to be.

For about as long as I've played games, I've wanted to make games. So I'm working on a Game Design Document for an idea I have, as well as the Technical Design Document. Hopefully I can go to school to learn how to do the things necessary to complete a game!
What goals do I have?
Well Its hard to say really because I have so many things that I like to do.
I want to go back to school for Game Design. But That expensive. Still a goal though.
I want to write more, completing a novel, or a series of novels would be a dream come true, as thats been a goal of mine for over a decade.
I want to make more music and record more. Not to garner any popularity, juts for my sake.
I want to play more games, and read more books. There are hundreds of experiences sitting on my bookshelves just waiting to be had!
So who am I?
I am a 25 year old gamer from Vancouver BC, who is a G1, a proud Nerdfighter and member of Suicidegirls.com
I am an aspiring writer, musician, photographer and video game designer, who likes to make Vlogs.
I figure that no matter what happens in my life I need to keep a clear view of what makes me who I am. And that's these things.
After losing myself for a few years, I feel this quote from John Green, by way of Neutral Milk Hotel.
How strange and how lovely it is to be anything at all.
DFTBA Everybody
