I realized today, that in the (nearly) month that Ive had 99% of my belongings in storage with just some clothes, a few books (all John Green DFTBA!) and my 3DS on hand, Ive lost track of a lot of stuff that seemed important to me in my life.
I used to check IGN.com and Screwattack.com every day. I dont think Ive checked either of them a single time since my relationship ended. Im sure part of it has to do with the fact that these are Gaming websites (mostly), and 95% of all my gaming stuff is in storage, so it would be depressing to keep up to date on that stuff If I had no means of fulfilling myself in that regard. I digress.
This evening I checked out IGN, I went through all the articles that peaked my interest as far back as 10 days. I may go back further after writing this though. I discovered some news that I cant believe I didnt hear from other sources (theyre going to make a Batman/Superman movie a movie that I suggested along with everybody else), there was the standard reviews and such. But there was something else that grabbed my emotions a little bit harder than anything has in a long time.
They had an article that was The Top 25 Animated Series for Adults
Im going to spoil the list for you its just a list after all.
Honorable Mention: Gravity Falls
25. The Critic
24: Daria
23: The Maxx
22: Sealab 2021
21: Spectacular Spiderman
20: The Life and Times of Tim
19: Aqua Teen Hunger Force
18: Space Ghost Coast to Coast
17: the Boondocks
16: The Tick
15: Adventure Times
14: Venture Bros.
13: King of the Hill
12: Spongebob Squarepants
11: Beavis and Butt-Head
10: The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show
09: Family Guy
08: Robot Chicken
07: Archer
06: Avatar the last Airbender/Legend of Korra
05: Ren and Stimpy
04: Futurama
03: Batman: The Animted Series
02: South Park
01: The Simpsons
(This list is notably missing Animaniacs and Spawn humph)
I noticed a significant emotional response once I got to King of the Hill on that list. Which is strange because its not a particularly important show to me on its own. Though it is something enjoyed many years ago, but in the 4 years I was with Sam I never watched it once.
I came to realize that I long to have a friend, or more than one that I see eye to eye with.
Perhaps not even a lover.
I need someone who I can laugh with when Kyles mom wages war on Canada, someone I can cry with when we see that Frys brother, whom he thought had hated him and betrayed him really loved him, so much that he named his son after him. Someone who I can sing the Monnorail song with. Someone who recalls dont wiz on the electric fence! and someone with whom I can discover these shows Ive never seen, like Avatar, and Daria (tragically).
Perhaps Im just lonely. This was bound to happen, and when I move into my own place, Im sure it will be worse.
Im just finding that I dont have any friends that I really see eye to eye with.
After all, most of my friends and family are Christian. And, well, Ive left that life behind for Science!
I know this seems to stray far from my initial topic of cartoons. But where are the people like me? The people who understand science, like cartoons, love HBO and Showtime, ogle sexy tattooed ladies, love retro videogames, are positive people trying to increase awesome and decrease worldsuck (DFTBA nerdfighters!)
I think that my 4-year relationship has left me void of belief that theres anybody out there that I can truly connect with.
Prove me wrong, universe.
BTW an acquaintance of mine is going to have a set in MR on Sept 20th. so give her first set some love too!
