Think about bipolar musicians, writers, directors, poets, and other artists. What is it about their music or writing that connects so well with people? When they get depressed they live in an intense world of darkness. When they are happy they are on cloud 9 it's like living in a psychosis of satisfaction.
Validation for their artwork, awards, fans, record sales or what have you still doesn't make them happy. Think about the rockstar suicides and freakouts despite success. Happiness is an untriggered emotion, much like the depression. It just kinda happens.
I think I answered my own question.

Famous Bipolar peeps.
It makes me feel a bit better about my bipolar disorder when I see that anyone can struggle with it, even the "beautiful people," or intelligent people. Edgar Allen Poe, Kurt Cobain, Axl Rose? WHO KNEW they could possibly be bipolar... /sarcasm
Anyway I don't wanna ramble, I don't know if you're affected by it yourself, but even though I'm "normal" or "level" most of the time, I choose to not take medication, so I have those hard times when the depression really grips me. Luckily, I don't have to worry too much about the mania, that's a rare occurrence. All that normally does is cause me to not sleep if I fight going to sleep when I'm actually tired, my body kicks into a slightly manic state, and then I CAN'T go to sleep when I want to.
