All right. So I've gotten some teasin about my comment so no, I'm not a swinger like that I grew up on the rougher side of town and have had my share of fighting outnumbered and being jumped. One thing is for damn sure in these situations; if you go down, you're going to get the shit kicked out of you. The only thing you can do is keep swingin until you can't. Then once you can't, swing one more time. Now you find yourself unable to swing anymore? Good, swing one more time, rinse, repeat but DON'T GO DOWN.
Now being older and experiencing more of life I can see how to apply the same concept to the rest of my life as well. Too many dishes to wash, burned out at work, body sore from yesterday's workout, whatever it is, I keep swingin. This does require a good deal of mind over body to force myself to keep walkin, swingin, whatever it is at the time but it's always effective.
I use the same concept when dealing with pain and I've taught my kiddies to do the same. Stub your toe, hit your head, cut yourself? Keep walking, working, playing, whatever you were doing before it happened and the pain will go away quicker than it will if you give it all your focus and attention. We have a granite countertop on our island in the kitchen and my baby girl who's 4 ran by and busted her head on it. She stumbled around grabbing her head, looked at me and said "no blood no tears daddy" and ran off. It broke my heart and I know it hurt like hell but that's the kind of toughness she's going to need later. It sucks, I know, but if someone shoves her at school she isn't going to break down in tears, she'll be fine when I can't be there to protect her because she keeps on keepin on.
