Wow, I am all KINDS of home right now. Yep, I have officially landed in Atlanta, GA, home of the Braves as well as several things I give a shit about.
For example, my puppy Sally. Sally is a bit old for a puppy (she's 11), but as it says in my profile she's still a puppy goddammit. When I got home she rushed over and did her little happy puppy whine and dance, wherein she kind of hops from one paw to the other. It's adorable.
My cats responded to my triumphant return in their usual fashion: failing entirely to acknowledge my existance. But you know what they say: anyone who tries to get their validation from cats is probably going to commit suicide in a matter of weeks. (Actually... I don't know of any "they" that says that. Sor really it's "you know what I say." But... since I've never said that before, it's more "you know what I'm about to say." Except you likely DIDN'T know what I was about to say, 'cause it hadn't been said before, or at least not so often that you'd know what I was about to write. So... "You probably don't know what I'm about to say." Still, "You know what they say" seems a bit less self-centered, so I vote we stick with that, shall we? Yes. Grand.)
Anyway, after a lovely dinner with my family, I went and hung out a bit with my friends Natalie, Trevor and Meg Meg. Trevor and Nat had to leave rather early, so it ended up with me and Megan hanging out in my apartment talking for several hours. It was good.
But I am ahead of myself, yes? I have a movie shoot to discuss! The 24 hour movie turned out to be both grueling and a hell of a lot of fun. The topic was "spare change," and we ended up doing a 3 minute short about a woman who feels herself to be a reprehensible human being, and so takes in a crazy bag lady from off the street. The funny thing about a 24-hour film is that by hour 10 everyone is catching sleep whenever they can. So we'd end up waking the actors up, they'd do their scene, and then they'd go back to sleep. It was like having coin-operated actors. (And, for that matter, crew, 'cause God knows I didn't stay up the whole time. I was on set from midnight to 4 pm, then had dinner, came home and slept for 14 straight hours. Many thanks to Starryeyed and Artenysis for going and getting coffee with me before the shoot.. And to Starryeyed for getting breakfast with me next morning. I am much obliged for the company.
So yeah. Atlanta. I'm actually rather excited to be here: it is, after all, home, with all the friends and activities that entails. I'll probably be going to the Istanbul Cafe to celebrate within a few days (I'm a baaaaaaad opera singer), and I have to say this summer holds great promise. I'll be seein' y'all SGATLiens on the 20th!
