I've turned vegan overnight. Well, technically in a transition phase at the moment but this won't take long. I haven't eaten meat for a week, no more animal products will be purchased or consumed knowingly by me. I've been a hypocrite for far too long. I'm fed up and it's got to stop.
Ethical reasons.
Compassionate reasons.
Triggered by a piece heard on Hack (current affairs program on radio station JJJ), which went on a journey through an abattoir, then interviewed animal rights activist Peter Singer. From there I have done my own research and have come to the only conclusion that is possible for me. To step out of the vicious cycle of murder.
One of my closest friends laughed at me. Mum thinks this is phase but is supportive (and will gladly 'mind' my new leather handbag! lol). The boy asked 'So no more fish for you?'. You'll get used to it. There is no going back for me.
I will be rounding up and selling all my animal derived possessions over the next couple of weeks. This includes but is not limited to: leather, wool, silk, fur etc etc. 100% of proceeds will be going to Animal Liberation. I'll be starting ongoing volunteer work with them soon. As you know, I own a lot of leather products so hopefully I'll have quite a bit of cash to donate! (Size 10 clothes, Size 7 - 7.5 shoes!)...handbags! Fetish gear. belts, crops, whips, posture collar. the list goes on. *sigh*
If you're in the habit of buying me gifts, please know that I would rather you make a donation than buy me anything derived from an animal.
This whole experience makes me feel sick to the stomach (from the research I've been doing) but also gives me so much strength and satisfaction at the same time. I always thought that I couldn't make a difference, but now I realise that I can through every single purchase and decision I make.
I knew a change was in the air for me.
This is it.
(I have more room to move in this crate than a pig or chicken does in hers).
