Due to my obsessive and at times surreptitious observing of the folk around me I've witnessed things the last weeks that I'd rather not have...
A girl significantly younger and less nourished then me leading a guy into a dark corner of an alley while he struggled to undo his belt. It was not urgency in her eyes.
A chubby kinda geeky looking kid running and hidding behind a bush so the cool guys wouldn't see him as they walked by. He had dry tears caked on his cheeks and the autumn leaves offered no camouflage.
and I only notice.

As per backcountry, I really haven't done any at all. Unless you count the cat skiing in Argentina, but I wouldn't. I've had a pass for the last few years and since I tend to be pretty lazy I'm more likely to go where the lift will take me than to hike. Embarrassing but true. I guess the best advice is to go with someone you know. Coolmelon and I are planning on heading out with a friend this winter so I might have more to share a bit later in the season.
