OK, so I've really got to stop caring about politics. I got a shitty night's sleep last night because every time I fell asleep I was dreaming that I was trying to convince someone that the poll numbers showing that Bush got a bump after his shitty performance at the press conference, were soft and really didn't mean anything. surreal
legionnaire:
I know what you mean - I've actually had a few bad dreams where Bush got reelected.

Thanks for the link, very interesting (if not altogether surprising.) The budget is just getting more and more absurd. All those zeros at the end... and yet there's no funding available for the biomedical research that I do. My professor said that every time she sees one of those tomahawk missiles used (they're about 2 million a pop) she thinks "there goes 4 more grants."

What a great fucking day...weather-wise. Sunny, crystal-clear and breezy with just a hint of a chill in the air; awesome. So how are things outside your window? What a waster of weekend, but in a good way. The most productive thing I did was watch three movies on Saturday: Cabin Fever puke , HULK whatever and Kill Bill Vol. 1 biggrin . I also managed to go to...

You can hold on to the PvD if you want. I just didn't want it to get lost at her old shop thats all. Sorry you can't make it to the show. It should be good. I heard that their recording some of the shows then selling them afterwards out in the loby."the hip new Thang" in concerts. I hope L.A. is one of them.

Listen here wolf child.
I come to you from the science of mythology.
I speak to you of maverick deviation.
The psychotronic love commandos;
We shall be drunk on stars,
We shall fear nothing,
Demand your dreams,
Define your destiny,
Defy the logic of alphabets,
I slayed the king of the wolves!
Nothing is impossible!

These idle hands; they do the devil's work.
These idle hands; they could do a whole lot worse.

Nice pic of Fiji. Glad someone followed the rules by posting a pic! tongue My friend had her honeymoon there and said it was mindblowing. The only freaky thing (besides the political unrest) was that she was told, after the fact by a local, that she had been swimming in an area of extremely poisonous sea snakes that could have killed her! Eeek! Other than that episode, she said it was the most peaceful, remote part of the world you can imagine.

Finally got hold of Jonathan Fire Eater "Wolf Songs For Lambs".
I could guess what they sounded like after listening to The Walkmen and I wasn't disappointed.
Only had a couple of listens but enjoying it immensely.
Thanks for reminding me to seek them out.
Cheers. smile

A student asked Soen Nakagawa during a meditation retreat, "I am very discouraged. What Should I do?" Soen replied, "Encourage others."

Yeah, I had a lot of hope for Arianna when she first started writing for salon.com - I though to myself "Here's a conservative who's seen the light!" Unfortunately I don't think that's the way it turned out, and like you said, she really embarrassed herself in the election over the whole tax debacle. Now I kind of thing she's just a media whore who occasionally has some good ideas.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check out that book, it sounds like it could be good.

Normally I would take your maniac friends advice on the booze illness thing, just not this time, too much shivering and headaches.
I am usually the first to use Homer Simpson's, booze is both the cause and cure to some of lifes problems philosophy.

Will try and make up for it over this pagan festival weekend. biggrin

But oh the Phlegm. Why?

Maps is beautiful.
Im going to see the Yeah Yeah Yeah's on tuesday. smile

When our thirst raged hotter than water could quench, theyd take to the ancient well that keeps the souls of our past beneath its surface. When I took their dare and peered over the edge onto that black pool, one of them would slap my back and holler, See, there it is-Id see my own reflection. We each took our turn pulling to the surface...

I hate paying attention to the news but I can't seem to stop. I don't long for my twenties when I didn't know or care about anything that was going on with politics or the world beyond my little corner of it but damn; cruising through life was sure a lot more pleasant. I still don't think I know anything but dammit I know too...

I'm not getting a day in LA. I'm too busy in OC to waste a day in LA. Not that you are a waste of time but LA has so little work that taking a day in LA I would lose money. As much as I love tattooing I really need to make some money to get out of debit. Could you come out to OC and see me? the offer for a free touch up is still good. I'm there 11 am till 11 pm Mon thru Wed and alternating Sundays.

Well shit what to say? I've come to the end of the first month of living with my girlfriend and I've got to say that it's been much much easier and a lot less drama than I thought it would be. I haven't freaked in the slightest (and neither has she). Her job sucks so when she gets home she's a bit bummed out and/or...

oh yeah...

i wrote this in the sports group but i'm not sure how many of us go in there or how often. so i'm taking this same post to everyone who's ever mentioned that they like soccer.

i'm thinking of applying for our own soccer/football/futbol group but i need to know how man soccer fans would actually join up. so we could have a place to talk about all of our soccer stuff without having to compete or worry about close minded sports fans getting in the way of discussions. i KNOW that there wouldn't be that many members but i think that a lot of us would feel more comfortable talking and discussing a bunch of this if we had our own space. i was thinking about applying for one when i was a member but i think i'll have more of a chance now that i'm an actual sg.

so if you want your own group...come hit me up in my journal and let me know so i can work on this more seriously. biggrin

p.s. i really want to start this group so hurry up and let me know if you'd be interested.

I went to the N*E*R*D & Black Eyed Peas show last night. N*E*R*D were good and BEP were fucking GREAT but gawdamn did the crowd make me feel old. Not necessarily in a bad way however. Oh and some one please explain to me the popularity of Justin Timberlake. He came out for BEP's encore AND for a couple of N*E*R*D tunes and people lost...

So when do big decisions regarding pronunciation take place? I remember about a year ago I started to hear the name Carnegie (which I've always pronounced and heard pronounced Kar-neh-Gee) pronounced as Kar-Nee-gee. When did that happen and why? And then today on NPR they were talking about Genghis Kahn and they pronounced it Jenghis Kahn. Are there memos that I'm missing?
