An old photo, that I found myself looking at earlier today for longer than usual.

I guess a lot has happened since I last updated almost a month ago. I still feel like I don't have much to say, even though there's been a lot of ups and downs in that time. Perhaps I should try and update more regularly and it wouldn't be so difficult to talk to you.

I read The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester. Lots of people have been recommending me this book and luckily Matthew had a copy I could borrow. Normally I like to own my own books and don't really borrow, but the covers of these science fiction reissues are so... pulp-ey. What can I say? They don't have very good taste in design.
That's neither here nor there. Once again this book was a true masterpiece. It really tied in with some of my own fantasies and visions of the future so I think that really helped.

I can't recommend it enough, as ever. It blew me away. It is so full of twists and turns you won't know whether you're coming or going. Not to mention that you think it starts out all typical science fiction; mostly about a futuristic society, with strange evolutionary patterns. But, it turns into so much more and with such depth and philosophical introspection that it took me by surprise.

Right now I'm in the middle of The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Thanks to Phinn. At first I wasn't quite sure about this book, but I'm really getting into it. I'm quite anti-religion and so anything to do with a god or a vision of heaven has me a little uncomfortable. But, I trust Phinn and she was so enthusiastic about the book I couldn't say no. Right now, I'm really happy I gave this book a chance. I can't really say too much about it right now, but it's an intensely comforting book.

Today I baked rather a complicated cake. It took many hours but it was a lot of fun. Here's some photos:
(Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the actual cake baking process as I wasn't really thinking about it until after I'd baked the cake. Matthew made a video of me baking though. Maybe one day you'll see it).

- What it is exactly:
A chocolate fudge layer cake with sugar free raspberry filling. It's decorated with low fat chocolate cream cheese frosting swirled with low fat maple cream cheese frosting and covered with fresh British raspberries and chocolate shavings.

- Bird's Eye View!
Yes, I made it all from scratch. I'm really quite proud of it! What do you think, would you want a slice?

Otherwise, everything is as usual. Busy as ever, and I think I may never be without a backlog.
I'm sorry if I'm not around as much as I wish I could be and if I don't comment in your journals. I really wish I could be a better friend sometimes. I think my biggest failing is that I just find it so difficult to fit keeping in touch with friends far away in between all the work and everything that goes with it.
I miss a lot of people a lot of the time.

Leave me a note and tell me one short moment in the past month that you would single out as having left a deep impression on you.
I like hearing stories.
