Bridge over Heavily Rippled Waters
Yes, I'm re-using old photos. Do you really want to know why? Really?
I had a massive and almost complete hard drive failure just over a week ago.
Stark (my Powerbook) crashed and wouldn't reboot. In retrospect I think the hard drive had been slowly failing over the couple of days preceding this as it was running ultra slow; I didn't even stop to think about it. I've cursed myself so many times over the past week and I'm just too tired to do that any more.
It had been a week since my last backup. Not so bad, you might think. But in that time I'd shot 12 sets and spent a whole day scanning some of my hand-printed black and white film prints. Not to mention all the email and other photos I accumulate every week.
Point is I was convinced I'd lost it all or that I'd have to fork out around $1600 for data recovery.
It seems to be almost certainly a hardware failure and so Disk Warrior can't do it's job and the drive is far too slow and damaged for the file structure to be rebuilt.
Luckily my Maple Daddy is super smart when it comes to programming and with the aid of an old titanium PowerBook as the boot drive and a little Ruby script we painstakingly sat at my computer for a week and slowly copied the files from one to the other.
Over the past week lots of tears have been shed; I've gone from being in denial to being convinced of the absolute worst.
We've finished Operation Resurrection and while the drive seems to be even more on its way to being dead we've rescued about 85-90% of the vulnerable files from eternal hell. Unfortunately the rest are lost forever to the black halls of data oblivion.
Fear not, it seems all 12 sets have enough boobies left in them to be edited into decent sets. However, I know I have lost some beautiful photos.
It's all been a little too stressful to be honest. At this point in time I'm not even sure my PowerBook is covered by Apple Care and I could be well on my way to an extremely hefty bill to get the thing fixed and the drive replaced. I'll let you know how that little gem turns out.

However! In other news:
After waiting almost 3 months for one cable company to pull their fingers out of their nether regions I phoned another on Tuesday to get a quote for internet installation. Less than 4 days later and I'm sitting in my own home and updating my journal! No, really! I have an internet connection at home. Shock horror.
Stick that in your cookie, Bulldog.

While all this stress and negativity has been happening some sets I've been dying to share with you have gone up!
Clio is so sweet and she waited patiently for over 6 months for me to shoot a set for her <3
Isn't Franpire just insanely beautiful??
This set was shot last september while I was staying in LA. It reminds me of the happy times I had there. Reagan rocks my little socks.
I miss hanging out with Venla so much. She is so genuine and funny and warm. Shortly after we shot this set, Venla, Yuki and myself all slept in that very bed <3

In general, I'm just tired and worn out over this whole hard drive fiasco. I've had enough and I need a holiday. I thought that before my hard drive even failed. Now I definitely need a holiday.
Sorry if you've been on the receiving end of my short-fuse and impatience lately. You'll know who you are.
Also, I'm just missing Brighton and the amazing friends I have down there. And let me tell you has it ever been rainy and miserable since I've been home. How British.

If you've sent an email to cherry@suicidegirls.com please be aware that it may be some time before I get back to you as my computer is completely dead. I'm lucky I have a Maple Daddy and can steal his to update my journal and such, but otherwise please try and be patient to hear from me!

Of course, I should mention that I look forward to all of your sets. I just... you know... have a crush.
Flights tend to be more expensive in the summer. I wish I wonn the lottery or something - then I'd take a trip to the UK and visit you!
