so you know how toys and fads seem to cycle through our lives multiple times. Recently the girls had been hounding me about wanting a snoopy snow cone maker. See exhibit A:
I told them that when I was a kid I had that toy and that it was a tedious frustrating pain in the ass. They assured me that the advances in technology since my childhood would make it easier and "dad look at all that ice coming out in the commercial, it's super easy now".
So the other day when the wife and I were out Easter shopping we saw it at target. Thirteen bucks. The wife plead their case for them so we bought it. Tonight they were all excited to try it out. I sat at the table and watched them try to put it together. It is essentially the Olive Garden cheese grater in a facade. They put it together and it falls apart after five or six cranks. They gave it to me to fix, I do, ten or twelve cranks later, falls apart again. Fifteen minutes and several reconstructions later we have one three ounce Dixie cup half full of shredded ice. So after half an hour or so we got two cups so they could each try it and they didn't like the flavor haha. We did have a pretty good five minute run where we went through four or five ice cubes.
So it was funny to watch them go through the same exact frustrations that I had as a child and to know that something's don't really change at all. And that was worth thirteen dollars and half an hours time.
