Just got back from doing a chefs auction fund raiser for march of dimes. It was kind of fun and I got a plaque and had my name mispronounced per usual. We had our table set up all fallarific and I made savory strudels with ham, leeks, sweet potato and apples and enough cheddar jack to hold it together. It was pretty good and the bar manager made a spiced sangria which was bombsy. It was all a giveaway but it was fun and I ended up pretty much just standing around schmoozing all night because I brought a guy to help and we had a server and a sales lady. I knew a lot of people that I had worked with or cooked for. My old boss from the dubtree was there. He had to come make sure I was happy where I was because his sous just quit today. I assured him I was fine and well taken care of. All the things I tried: lasagna, fried risotto balls, butternut squash soup, lamb stuffed tomato, carrotcake bread pudding , in house made head cheese, pulled pork with watermelon salsa, chicken and white beans on a waffle with fried chicken skin, tuna ceviche, tilapia lettuce wrap with pico, and Chix sate with jalapeo bacon crumbles. The chicken bean waffle thing was actually really good. The carrot cake bread pudding wasn't as good as it sounded. The lamb stuffed tomate was good except they drizzled some premade balsamic reduction that was gross. The soup was made by the students of a chef at a local church that runs a vocational training center. I may end up getting a couple line cooks out of that place. We were stationed right next to them and I ended up talking to a couple of them for a while.
The wife is still out doing her community band thing. I hope it goes well.
