Back to the grind. Chicago was a blast If you want the blow by blow food review It is between the spoilers.
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Chicago was sick. We had apps and drinks at the hotel. We had artichoke croquettes with a great sauce and a fresh mozz prosciutto platter that was ok but nothing special. At Quay I had a woodford reserve cocktail with mango and peaches, great drink. When we got a table shit got ridiculous. My boss ordered a 300 bottle of Pride Mountain Reserve great red super smooth. We got for apps; surf and turf tartare, a charcuterie platter that had a duck bacon mousse(quite possibly one of my top ten things my tongue has ever touched), a pork terrine, rabbit rillet, and a chicken sausage the sauces were a smear of brown mustard and a fig mustard which was amazing, also a lamb sausage thing with tomato, olives fennel and micro greens, oysters I couldn't eat and a crab shrimp bisque which I tried because I got caught up in the frenzy and forgot what it was, it was amazing and I didn't die from two bites. The boss ordered a bunch of sides to try so we had pulled pork mac n cheese, warm potato salad which could have had more kick but was still great. Also that course we had a second 300 dollar bottle of wine and the manager came over to see who we were and why we were having more fun than everyone else. There was a caesar salad nothing special (wine). We got three entrees to just split I got Lamb Au Poivre with peppers and eggplant puree which was great but overshadowed by the porchetta stuffed pork saddle and the capon which for just being big ass chicken was amazing with andouille and succotash. The pork was the hit of the three it just melted, so wrong. As we were winding down and the boss started to tire of harassing the waitress they drop a bunch of desserts on us. Pistachio Cheescake, a Chocolate Bombe which was a super dense chocolate mousse covered in a sexyass glistening chocolate sauce, then a tray of tiny sweet things that are a blur except I remember a tiny raspberry big mac looking thing and fudge brownies cookie style.
The boss retired early but put his card on our rooms and told us to drink on his at the hotel bar so we had a neat Makers and a beer. Those last two set me into totally drunk "I just got my third wind" mode. The exec was tore up so I got him up to his room and the I took my happy drunk ass and wandered around Chicago in the middle of the night. I fucking love wandering around the city be cause block to block everything changes. Three blocks from that swank ass hotel is the YMCA and a bunch of rowdy drunk homeless guys. I roamed around looking for something worth doing or seeing or eating and stumbled upon a weird little gyro place and ended my night with some totally unnecessary grease.
I skipped breakfast but for lunch we went to an upscale mexican place down the street. Beautiful place with opening walls so it was a mix of eating inside and outside. They had a 5 dollar patron marg special which we all got and guac made table side. warm salsa and chips excellent service I got a carne asada deal with an enchilada we also go pork shank carnita with a chipotle sauce both were great.
Beyond that not much to tell. We took the train. It is better than the bus and better than tryin to park down town but not my favorite mode of transportation.
I am starting to get excited for the forth of july. The last couple years I had to work because the fireworks were at the club. This year my place is closed on the forth and I live two blocks from the fireworks so we get to have a little party again. TreeThingBlue will be there I'm sure, he has already requested guacamole. There is always room for an SG or 2 if you happen to be in the neighborhood. I actually have the day before off too so I can actually go buy fun things to eat ahead of time. I hope it cool down by then it was 103 today and the kitchen ac did not keep up well. Off to bed peace out SG.
