Ok, here's the scoop on Snoop.
Opening band was State Champs out of DeKalb. They were victims of a crap sound guy and a drunk DJ. What I have found out about them today online is a lot better than they sounded last night and it looks like the DJ was not part of the regular band nor was the tall goofy white guy that took a few rounds. So they played for about an hour and were not well received. They were followed by a local wedding DJ. I thought "wow I didn't know that Joe Beck was also a hip hop DJ" come to find out he was not. So a rowdy drunk crowd that didn't like the local opener was treated to and hour of club mix top forty bullshit just like at your preppy friends wedding. Suddenly everyone longed for the State Champs to return. When they finally get the wedding DJ off the stage it looks like they were getting Snoop set up and they play a mix of songs featuring Snoop but not Snoop songs and every time the song changed people started to boo and yell for Snoop, this went on for an hour and 15 minutes. People were leaving, because, while I love Snoop when it come to him coming to town he doesn't have the best track record. Last year he showed up 2 hours late and only played for 30 minutes. I was staying if for no other reason than to see what happened if he flaked. Another fucked up thing was that the stage right balcony was full of 10 year and younger children. My oldest daughter wanted to go and my thought was no way am I taking her to a pot filled hip hop show. Lucky kids but I am sure they had a contact buzz from they haze that was going on in this little theater.
Finally,Snoop comes on and he literally knocks the roof off the place. Every few songs they had to come out and sweep the chunks of ceiling off the stage and the other group members kept looking up at the ceiling uncomfortably. The first 5 songs were old and some of my favorites. Then he did two 2Pac songs( ride or die, gangsta party), a Warren G song, House of Pain song. Then, Gin and Juice and a couple more newer songs. He bailed and so did the crowd,if he had come out to do an encore only about 50 people would have seen it. Super glad I went and the wife had a great time.
