So I noticed this interesting environmental article in last week's Willamette Week. To summarize:
"A March 2005 study by the Environmental Protection Agency shows most scooters on the road pollute more than SUVs."
Don't trust Bush The Second's EPA? Fair enough... so the WW did their own studies on 3 scooters and an SUV, measuring hydrocarbons (which lead to ground-level ozone, a health hazard) and CO (causes greenhouse effects):
scooters:
1968 Piaggio Gran Turismo-- 4900 parts per million hydrocarbons, 8.6% CO exhaust emissions.
2006 Motofino 150T-10D-- 168 ppm hydrocarbons, 3.1% CO emissions.
2005 Piaggio Stella-- 1100 ppm hydrocarbons, 7.1% CO emissions.
SUV
2006 Subaru Tribeca-- 10 ppm hydrocarbons, 1% CO emissions.
I would've liked to seen more SUVs tested, but this is a gigantic difference anyway, n it makes you wonder.... wonderwonderwonder....
