I have to say, my ears are so happy today.
I just got Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Ultimate Collection and Etta James Rocks the House today in the mail.
The Gladys Knight and the Pips CD has all their great booty-shakin' gospel-inspired songs from the 60's and 70's. And Etta James does in fact rock the house on this live recording from 1963 at Nashville's New Era Club. You can hear the crowd totally getting into the performance, yelling and singing in the background while Etta growls and shouts her way through the set.
Abso-fucking-lutely amazing.
ed: I have a roller derby patron! My friend in Austin who I affectionately call "I cut up dead people" (he's a forensic pathologist) has graciously offered to help me purchase these beauties:
And I don't even have to put out. Whatta guy.

Cool. When I drink whiskey and sing, I sound like Captain Beefheart. That is why I no longer drink zee whiskey.
