This year has been off to a horribly emotional start.
As you all know, Paddy and I had the motorbike accident 4 days before Christmas, and he's been in hospital ever since (fingers crossed he's allowed to come home this coming week).
So that was a horrendous time for me, I have been so full of stress and worry about his health and well-being...and in the process I've lost 6kg - which I couldn't really afford to lose in the first place.
Then we had a brief moment of happiness when we got engaged on our 4-year anniversary on the 30th December...that was an awesome day. With the excitement of breaking the news to our friends and family, it was a time when we could push the previous events to the backs of our minds and just be happy for a while.
Now, 2011 has come along...and with it it has brought some dark days.
Last week, Queensland was hit by a torrential amount of rain...which resulted in burst rivers and tsunami-like events. Toowoomba got hit by an 8-metre wall of water with no warning - with houses going completely under, lives being lost, possessions swept away and an insane amount of damage to roads, buildings, cars....everything.
The wall of water then travelled towards Brisbane, on the way hitting places such as Lockyer Valley, Gatton, Laidley, Minden (which is where the amazing Scotty resides)...eventually reaching the Brisbane River - which broke it's banks and flooded the city and around 60 surrounding suburbs.
The results have been devastating. The death count is up, the number of missing people is up, the number of homes lost, cars lost, possessions lost, business lost....I could go on forever. Not to mention the suburbs with their power, internet, and water supply cut off...people are panic-buying their groceries so the supermarkets are stripped bare (literally)...and other are left with absolutely nothing to go home to.
And yet, even with all of this going on...Queenslanders have kept their spirits high - some even having a sense of humour to help deal with it...and everyone has banded together to help everyone else. Volunteers are coming from left, right and center to do whatever they can to help those in need and get our beautiful city cleaned up. It's going to take months before the debris and filth is cleaned up...and years before people are able to get settled again.
Please, 2011....I'm begging you...no more devastation - I don't think I can handle it
On a slightly more positive note - Paddy is doing so well with his healing and I am so very proud of him. The doctors are happy that he needs no more surgery, and with any luck he'll be home within a week
I've entered us into a competition to win a couples shoot - in order to celebrate our engagement. If any of you have a second to spare...all you need to do is 'like' our photo on the Facebook page and we're in with a chance
Vote for Paddy and Sabrina to win the Valentines couple shoot
