State law says that in a recount, 3% of the precincts are to be randomly selected and counted by hand, then compared with the machine count. But the Board of Elections selected the precincts using very non-random criteria, and then when the ballots arrived, they had clearly been all cleaned up, and were nicely in order: all one candidate, then all the next. I suppose it will end up going to court, but for the moment the process is pretty discouraging, and I'm afraid we're stuck with Bush for another four years.
At the moment, I'm just hoping for a very large snowfall so I can build an igloo.
