@missy @rambo - I had a good think about this one and the first thoughts for me was things like sushi, ramen, spicy chicken, ribeye steak and cheese burgers. But then I really thought about what I would want to eat if it was my last day on earth - I would want what we all want (I'm sure it's different for everyone) I would want the things that I ate regularly growing up. My comfort food.
When most of us think of British food the first word that comes to mind is BLAND. Let me tell you, if it's cooked properly, this is not the case.
Let's start with breakfast. Drum roll please....the good old fashioned English breakfast. Or to the locals - a fry up.
Oh dear. This meal I'm sure has contributed to many a heart attack in this country but I regularly go to my local greasy spoon for a full English after a night shift.
Next up - the hot pot. Just like mother used to make. Best eaten on a cold winter evening with lots of bread and butter.
Next of course, what British last supper would be complete without Fish and Chips? Sadly, I can't have vinegar of any type anymore but I would highly recommend lots of malt vinegar on your chips. Not fries. Chips. Haha.
All over Britain, but even more so in the north, we like to eat PIE!! Buttery pastry, melt in the mouth meat and gravy, a pile of peas on the side. Yum!
Sunday dinner. Most British folks ALWAYS have this meal on Sundays. Chicken, Beef or Lamb with all the trimmings. I don't always have time to cook this as I work alot of Sunday's but my mum made the BEST roast lamb dinners. It's comfort at its best.
Now for dessert.....first up - Egg custards. So delicious.
Next - Trifle. Jelly, custard, cream and sprinkles. What's not to like?! And none of this chocolate/coconut nonsense you see in the supermarket. Strawberry or Sherry trifle please!
Almost done. Strawberry and clotted cream scones. Never gets old. Surely EVERYONE loves cream tea?! Which brings me to my final last meal request....a hot, sweet cup of tea. I take mine in a large mug with two teaspoons of sugar and a splash of milk. The cup has to be white on the inside and the tea has to be the colour of a house brick. I'm fussy when it comes to tea.
In my humble opinion, British food at its best. I hope you enjoyed my last supper choices.x x
