Hi gorgeous guys and gals! I've not been around too much for a few weeks I know. I've been unsure if I should share an experience I had two weeks ago but I'm ready to tell you now.
Doing what I do for a living I always expect a little danger to be involved. However I was not expecting to be locked in a tiny bedroom, punched in the jaw and my wrist almost snapped. I work with people from all walks of life with varied conditions. I have done this job for a long time and there isn't much I don't know about caring for vulnerable adults - and I certainly know if someone has the "capacity" to know that what they are doing is wrong. This person knew very well what she was doing but because nobody had ever given her consequences to her actions she honestly thought she could do what she liked. This attitude doesn't work with me.
Let me explain.....You see advertisements everywhere asking us not to treat people with mental health issues differently and I fully support this. Every single person reading this will know someone with a mental health diagnosis, it's not so unknown anymore. 90% of the people I work with are the sweetest folks you can ever meet but you always get the odd few who think because of their illness they can push the boundaries of what is acceptable behaviour. To be brutally honest it's not always their fault - we live in a world of bleeding hearts - the services save them from their actions time and time again.
So imagine what her face looked like when the police came knocking on her door!! It was a picture I can tell you. My boss looked at me like I'd just taken a crap on her shoes when I told her I was pressing charges! I won't back down though - there have to be consequences to people's actions. ALWAYS.
