It's been a long time since I've listened to vinyl, and today I put on some of my records in a fit of nostalgia (or madness).
Two things immediately stood out while I listened to my ancient antiques. The first was that I listen to the music more closely than I do with CD's. I guess that is because of the second thing--records don't play long per side. I had to keep track of the music so I could change sides. CD's play on and on, and my mind drifts to other tasks and subjects while they spin.
After listening for a while, I finally noticed how much fuller the sound of vinyl was compared to CD's. If it weren't for the occasional pop, and all of the farting around keeping dust off the records and needles, I suppose I would have listened to my records more. (Then there was keeping a decent needle on the arm and hunting for the perfect amp and speakers--it was a real pain back in the olden times!)
