Hrm... interesting fact. Asthma is a disqualification for service in the Army if you have a prescription inhaler. Fortunately I found that out from an Army recruiter, not a Coast Guard guy. Maybe I can lie to the Coast Guard guy if I end up deciding I want to do that, but save it as an excuse to dodge the draft or other unfavorable military service if it comes up in the near future? Although the Army recruiter did say that he wasn't sure about how that would affect my qualification to serve in the Coast Guard.
Seriously, though, my asthma is so minor it's ridiculous. I've got an inhaler, but I haven't used it in forever. I'm also more athletic than pretty much everyone else I know, and have better endurance/stamina than a lot of people I know that don't have asthma. I looked at the physical tests (pushups, situps, running, swimming, etc.) I'd have to pass to graduate boot camp and I know for a fact I could meet and exceed the requirements definitely by the end of the eight weeks, if not now. I can definitely do the running, the pushups and the swimming already.
