First cold Winter rain
Even the monkey seems to want
A tiny raincoat
Basho
Who knew the Japanese were haiku-ing about monkeys back in the late 1600s? Okay, I'm sure someone knew, like my friend Rachel, but... damn. There's a whole book of this stuff called "The Monkey's Raincoat" that was published back in 1690. I feel like I was born way, way too late.
Year after year
On the monkey's face
A monkey face
Basho

Don't forget, Maxx, my good man: Those have been translated from Japanese. They don't match up perfectly in English, but in their native tongue they (more than likely, since I don't speak enough Japanese to know, nor do I have the original text) follow the "rules" for haiku. No one's lied to you, at least not about this.
OK. I'm aloud to like the second one guilt-free now.
