Billy, Bass Wolf.
Rest In Peace, motherfucker.
Thanks for all the great times.

Billy apparently died of a heart attack this morning, April 30, 2005.
He was acting erratic on the last tour and I'm sure something was going severely wrong with him. We never thought we would lose him. Goddamn.
Since the first time Guitar Wolf played in Memphis, Billy's spirit shone through. They were playing the infamous wednesday night beer bust at the Antenna, the best gig in town, maybe, but they had to open up for a local act of no renown, the liquid paper fly boys (or was it the liquid fly paper boys? that sounds more like it). anyway, they had to borrow some equipment, but Billy used a bass amp we'd scrounged up from somewhere. After the Guitar Wolf set (which was amazing, and got them triple the crowd when they came back a week later), the liquid guy's bass amp didn't work. Billy found himself face to belly with a six foot four redneck trying to blame him for trashing his bass amp. somehow we got through it, with billy's constant semi-english apologies and my semi-translator action and redneck appeasement skills. In the end everyone was all right. we drank more beer in the parking lot. it was all right.
Another favorite Billy moment: Oblivians are on tour in Japan, and we hit one of the amazing Japanese rest stops- like rest malls! We go into a major supermarket and they're giving away free taste samples to the customers. Billy tells Greg O, "Try it, mmmmmm, good!" So Greg eats it, and Billy immediately adopts a sad face and says, "Greg, you just ate my friend the horse!"
Aah, you crazy motherfucker. Thanks for all the great times.
