Bigotry is ignorance, and its perpetrated by the ignorant who seek to spread that oppression through lies. Our culture has even defined some forms of bigotry as a heinous crime. We call them "hate crimes".
Yet still other forms of bigotry are accepted, and even encouraged. It's oh-so-funny. This form of bigotry is pure hatred and contains the vilest and most outrageous of lies. Yet most people accept it without giving its claims any critical thought.
Ironically, the same people who tell others to have an open mind, search out the facts, don't follow the crowd, and claim to speak the truth are among the worst offenders - and hypocrites.
