The two jobs I have had for longest in my life are with Starbucks and McDonalds. Does this mean i'm a corporate whore...?
It surprises me how many young people actually work for these two corporations. And i can honestly say the job quality is faaaar better at Starbucks. I met a lot of great people at McDonalds but i hated the work I was doing. The fact that individuality was frowned upon was the last straw really. I think it's honestly possible to program a human, under the guise of 'procedures'. I often found myself having entire conversations with customers without actually being there, a totally subconcious thing. At least at Starbucks there's a lot more leaway to be an individual, and there's less rules. The guidelines are there, but they're more subtle. And this all contributes to a better working environment. Happy at work, happy in life
