The opening weekend of my Spring Break was pretty exciting for me. It started with me going to see Jimmy Holliday and Steve The Volcano, a couple of anti-folk musicians in Bakersfield who are good friends with my friend Jake, and are now friends with me. It was great. We also saw a local band called Failsafe, but they sucked. After that, the four of us (Jake, Jimmy, Steve, and I) went to another show to see a New York band called Asobi Seksu. They were awesome. Locomotive To The Groin (another local band) was there, too, and they weren't too bad. Overall, it was a great night, and I pretty much got hit on by Jimmy most of the night. I can finally say that a musician has felt me up. On Easter, I almost got killed by a pimp. A couple of friends and I went to Union Avenue in Bakersfield to scope out the prostitutes. With no intention of paying for one, of course. We just wanted to see them. After following a random customer and starting a high-speed chase, we found out about a little prostitution ring at the Arco. We waited around, watching a couple of pimps and then followed one home. But he caught on and started approaching us. So, I shone a big spotlight in his face as we went to go speed off. But the car died. And it was so fucking scary. Just as he was pulling up beside my car, it suddenly came to life again and we got the hell out of there. He followed us, practically trying to ram into the car. After maybe a mile or two, we finally got rid of him and decided to calm the night down. Fucking crazy shit.
I went on an evening picnic with my friend's ex-girlfriend Friday night. It was quite nice. Her boyfriend called towards the end, which was a tiny bit awkward for me. But not much. I think the only reason why she told what she was doing was to try to make him jealous. I doubt too many guys want to hear about their girlfriend having a picnic with a good friend of her last ex-boyfriend. Eh, whatever. Even with the phone call, I had a really good time. It was too bad Julie couldn't go, though. She backed into her best friend's car, so she can't do much of anything for awhile. But we still had fun. We took a blanket and a candle and sat out under the stars and ate some chicken spaghetti that I made. She bought me a neon travel Connect Four game as an Easter present, so we played that for a little while and shared stories. See, this is the kind of thing I'm into. Sure, going to movies and shows is a lot of fun. But I love just sitting in a nice quiet place with someone and talking about random things. I really enjoyed it. And it's something I needed, because I've been pretty depressed lately. We're thinking of going on a road trip sometime in the near future.
