So this weekend I was looking for flash paper. For those of you who don't know, it's these little sheets of paper that go up in a bright burst of flame when you touch them with a fire source, like a lit cigarette. I was picking them up for someone who needs them for a haunted house thingee. I found out you can't get them at the costume shop because they are considered pyrotechnics so I needed to go to the magic shop. I call and get directions to the store and head over. This store is in the alley with a tiny little sign on the opposite building in the alley from the one the store is located in. Ok whatever. You have to ring a buzzer to get let in. Alright. At this point I'm wondering how anyone can even find this place. Once I was inside I realized, people like me aren't supposed to find this place. It is definitely for magic people. I felt like I was in a bizarro eyes wide shut type movie. Total creepy vibe. The guy behind the counter gave me a little bit of the stink eye and asked what I needed. I quickly got my flash papers and headed out of there. I'm such a nerd, this whole experience was an adventure for me. I'm pretty sure I imagined the whole thing being weird and creepy but it's fun for me. I love finding places like that right when I start to feel like Minneapolis is super boring and vanilla. It keeps me guessing I guess.
