Ok. As you can see from my profile picture, I had white-blonde stick-straight hair, up until I hit puberty. Now, I have naturally curly hair. Not tight little ringlets, more like big full soft ones. I never quite knew my hair's potential; I never learned how to deal with it. So I blew it out almost every day of my life. The end result was baby fine fragile hair that would kink up at any sign of moisture.
Jump to May 2004. I started working for Devachan Salon in Soho, NY, which is a salon founded by Lorraine Massey who also wrote Curly Girl. I started using their products the day I started working. And I've never been happier with my hair. Honestly, it's the picture of health and my curls have even evolved into these enviable bouncy thick tendrils...I could rave about it for hours.
Since I was hired, I've learned so much about the damage we do to our hair, and I've completely sworn off of heat styling entirely - aside from a diffuser set on mild when I'm in a rush. Straightening irons are pure evil in my eyes.
I guess it all depends on what you want. If the goal is to have stick straight (though damaged and dried out and unhealthy) hair, then I suppose a straightening iron is your best bet. But I'm a total advocate for accepting your hair for what it is, and not forcing it to be something else. Your head of hair is with you every day for the rest of your life - it should be nurtured the same way your skin is.
I know I sound like I've been brainwashed or I'm advertising or something, but it all comes from my heart. I've never felt more passionate about freakin' HAIR PRODUCTS (or any other products for that matter) in my life. They've changed me, they've changed my hair.
/end preaching.
On the real, though - email me your address and I'll send you some stuff.
