Okay, _thirtyseven_ made me think about my relationship to musicians or their music. Specifically in relation to Tori Amos. Part of the problem is falling so hard for someone's music at first, that all of their subsequent releases can never quite live up to that level excitement and connection. So, it's sort of like a relationship. Fell in love with Little Earthquakes. Refreshing, moving, beautiful, funny, disturbing and somewhat different from anything else that I was hearing at the time. Kate Bush was the closest comparison I could draw and Tori seemed so much more real and grounded and not overdramatic. And her live show was incredibly good. The follow-up Under the Pink had some great songs. I'd include Baker Baker and Cloud on My Tongue as a couple of her best. And some others that were very good. That tour offered one of the best live shows I've seen. But overall, that cd didn't grab me the way Little Earthquakes did. It was obvious we were on the downside from the honeymoon already. Then came Boys for Pele. The separation was amicable. It just didn't work out, no hard feelings, we can still be friends, etc., etc....
And the question from yesterday for everyone (and I mean EVERYONE, except demi) who missed it was what was your favorite cd from 2002? I have a vote for AFI and/or Tori so far. Mine was Duncan Sheik's Daylight.
