So I'm working from home today as I babysit my boiler...beware hot water heat...it is cleaner and more constant...but boilers sometimes like to pee on the floor like a bad dog.
And as I wake up, I'm reminded further of how every day I am becoming more and more my Father. And that's not a bad thing, my Dad's a hero of mine. I'm no hero, our similarities are our looks, senses of humor, and some other odd behaviors. I don't have his stoic capacity to be the rock. I'm something of a rock, but nowhere near his girth or density.
We both sleep in sweatshirts. And when he would get up, I distinctly remember those times when he wouldn't shower, but just begin his immediate tasks. He would just tuck his sweatshirt into his jeans, put on a coat, and begin his day.
I found myself doing that this morning. Most likely for the first time...instead of a coat, I put on a fleece overshirt, but still. As I finished, I realized what I'd done....
Those of you with kids! It is true! They are watching you and soaking it all in! So if you do something gross like pick your toes and examine the jam funk while watching the Lawrence Welk Show...you are surely setting your kid up for being dumped by somebody for that behavior later in their life! Thankfully nothing my folks did was that weird...but we all get dumped for one reason or another. So don't sweat it, unintentional parental role models!
But my boiler appears OK...nothing too major. Slightly more popping and creaking...but no more water leakage.
And, in a couple weeks...The DIrty Show hits Detroit! My pal Julee will be going with me, as usual. Always fun. And this year, with Annisa and her troupe performing, it will be EXTRA fun.
Not much else has gone on...this is the busy season, so there's lots of work. But I did see The Bucket List...excellent! And Juno...also excellent but in a different way.
But most of the people in my life are doing well, the others are hopefully cresting the hill and on their way to the easy, sunny side...hope everyone's new year is starting out right.
Take it easy....
