so, i went to thanksgiving. my family is crazy. uncle steve (total sweetheart, alcoholic, and recovering drug addict) was there. then uncle rocky (71, senile, total sweetheart, and NUTS) came. then mom and eric arrived. grandma shirley (yes, im named after my grandmother if you didnt already know) was soo happy i came. mom didnt tell her i had decided to come up, so she was completely surprised. she used to be so active, and looked young for so long. it hurts to see her looking so old. it was good to do the family thing, though i only stayed a few hours. love them though i do, i can only handle my family in very small doses. i enjoyed the drive though, and got to revisit some of my childhood memories.

grandma & grandpa's place. my grandfather built the entire house, and all of the garages/sheds/everything.
the stones that form the small "fences" or whatever on the property were hand picked down at the rivers in that area, and he built them with his own two hands. he's an amazing man

the "bumpy road". the last stretch of the drive (a mile or two) before my grandparents place is just a dirt road. when i was little, my grandparents let us all take off our seatbelts when we finally reached it. and when my mom and i would drive up there (and i was still little) she'd let me sit on her lap on the road and shift for her
when i was like...8...my grandma and i built this bird house. best part? there has never ever been a bird that used it in the past almost 13 years haha
new meaning given to "swinging from a tree". as kids, we spent hours swinging on swings my grandparents put up on big trees all over their property.

and a multitude of everyones pets who passed away. kinda morbid, but we all brought them up to that tree area to be buried. our own family "pet cemetary"
back in his day, grandpa ralph was reminiscent of an old movie star.
his politics and narrow minded views may make me wat to scream, but i adore my grandpa
three generations. we have the same smile.

overall, a good thanksgiving. now im just waiting for catagogo to come over so we can watch the gilmore girls episode from tuesday and catch up and cuddle <3
