It was my work Christmas do last night.
Which usually means posh frocks, big tables, warm stale food and a disco.
Last night was all of this, but a little bit more.
All my workmates (oh wonderful drunkenly people that they are) decided that i really really ought to be going out with a guy called Peter (who works on the other shift, so i've met him a couple of times but that's it.) Apparently, 'he's lovely' and 'I'd really like him', he's even 'a good catch'.
There was even a couple of points in the evening where he was dragged (by said colleagues) to the dancefloor to dance specifically with me. It was embarressing.
so, at this point, i'd resigned myself to another three hours of everybody else sneaking looks at us and having fun based on their wild hypotheses, while i'd be unable to relax and just dance because i'd have to watch who i danced with / smiled at, and was working out when the earliest i could go home was.
the thing is, although he was cute, and could dance, i have a boyfriend. (Something that everyone else seemed to think was a minor obstacle, since said boyfriend was far away and not here).
But then, having made my position clear, a great thing happened, that ended up making my night. Peter and I ended up dancing together.
You have to also understand that i love to dance. I take lessons and really enjoy being on the dancefloor with someone that knows what they're doing. And Peter knew what he was doing. You can just tell by the hand holds. And it was really really fun. And since i was enjoying dancing, i just forgot about the scheming people sat at the tables.
We danced for about two hours, just us two, not in a big circle but on our own, following each other's moves and replying to them, having fun and spinning around and doing impressive moves. Turns out he's a dance champion.
Anyway, that was a really good Christmas party and it was totally unexpected for me to enjoy it so much. How'd your Christmas party go?
love,
Cat
