So I finally got some pics of my cardboard brother. If you missed the beginning of my journal, I'm doing a photo vacation for my brother who is in prison. He asked me to take pictures of the new stuff in San Francisco, because he hasn't been here in a long time. So I decided to put a cardboard version of him in the photos, a sort of fabricated vacation.
I don't think I'll send him the pictures from the BBQ. They even make me a little sad, because he can never really come to a party again -- not for at least twenty more years. I don't want to make his time harder than it already is. But I think the pictures of the two of us will lift his spirits a little bit. I can't think of a better way to remind him that I will always be there for him, even though our lives are so completely different.
I can't wait to get more pics.
Random Mischief #4:
What if I started taking him everywhere and introducing him as if he was a real person? I could talk in a really weird voice and, with a straight face, pretend that it's coming from him. "You know, he gets offended if you don't shake his hand." Maybe I should seat him with me at restaurants and order him some food.
For more pics, including construction of the cardboard muscleman, see my pics folders.
F.A.Q.
What's your brother in for?
He's a meth addict and therefore a burglar, though he's not a violent offender. This last time he stole a car and crashed it as he fled from the police.
How much time did he get?
That was his third strike, so he got mandatory 25 to life. He's done about 4 or 5 years now. I already lost count.
Are you ok about it?
Yeah, he's always been in trouble. As much as you love people, you can't save them from themselves.
I love him very much, though, and I love you too!
