This week's bog homework from @missy and @rambo is something I think is really important to talk about.
I've decided to put together two topics that I feel like go together with my mindset here: social media and make up.
I think that in the cases of both social media and make up: what you see is what I want you to see. Basically, on social media I can post any picture with any comment any day or time. I could be posting a picture from two weeks ago and have a happy quote on it that I'm posting because I am sad or I could be posting it because I am happy. Honestly, you may never know unless we become close friends. I'm not even just saying this for myself, because personally I don't really do that too often. I'd like to think I'm fairly transparent online. Also, the same goes for make up. I wear make up just about every day and I do it because I love it. However, I do have days where I stay home and don't wear any.
Now to be clear, posting "not so true" pictures and wearing make up does not constitute as being fake. Like I said the beauty of social media is that we can make it look however we want. It doesn't have to be an explicit depiction of our lives. As well as make up is not lying or being deceitful. It is simply enhancing your features in a creative manner. If having a good social media presence and amazing make up gives you confidence, more power to you! Honestly, people are too concerned with how others view them when loving yourself should come first.
So no, I do not typically post things that do not reflect how I am feeling. I have a hard time delving into social media because I love actually interacting with my friends in person. However, I'm trying to do better on here to really express myself. On the other hand, I do wear a lot of make up because that is fun for me to do every day. I like deciding what my look is going to be and how I'm going to express myself to others for that day.
I think what I'm trying to say is that social media is such a personal experience for everyone and there is no need to feel like you have to be a certain way on social media, you should always do what makes you happy. Same as for make up :) Also, just for fun, here is a picture of my face with just foundation and eyebrows drawn vs full eye makeup and lipstick added. Either way I'll leave my house, but it just depends on how I feel that day.
